Party membership[edit]

For the SED there is one category: "Category:Socialist Unity Party of Germany members" and another category for "Category:Socialist Unity Party of Germany politicians"

Same in German wikipedia

For the KPD (aka Communist Party of Germany) there is just one category, this one : "Category:Communist Party of Germany politicians".

In German wikipedia, however, the KPD gets the same two categories as the SED - one for "members" and another for "politicians"

Is here any reason whey we do not mirror this category structure for the KPD in English language wikipedia?

There are plenty of people whose party membership was important to them, to their career, and to their lives, but who could not reasonably be described as politicians. That is something we recognise for the SED but not for the KPD. The result is that we end up (or are tempted to end up) as categorising as politicians KPD members who really weren't politicians at all.

Actually, exactly the same discussion is approporiate to a lot of other high profile political parties, and not just in Germany. It would be significant if John Lennon had been a member of the Conservative Party or of the Labour Party even though he was clearly never a politician. Ditto Elvis Presley and the Republicans/Democrats. And back in Germany, there were lots of Nazi Party members for whom party membership was highly relevant and significant even though they were never politicians. But this is the talk page for the KPD. Any views? Regards Charles01 (talk) 08:08, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
