i got a mssg about this article's perhaps being removed based on something like it's too short? i am new to Wikipedia, am a copyeditor by trade, and am interested in this topic, living on the West Coast and having grown up in the West (Colorado) - it struck me as illogical to leave this as it was, saying that the West does not have its own cuisine as the East does - heard of Alice Waters? . . . - so i undertook to work on it - now i get this 'delete' thing . . . i am not good at handling categories (don't quite get how to add sub-pages) - but it would seem to me the cuisine of the West might be further divided into Cuisine of California (we have articles already on California Cuisine and Cuisine of Calif.) and Cuisine of the Pacific Northwest along with perhaps Cuisine of the Mountain States (beef, venison, etc), Ethnic Cuisine of the West ( Mexico, South America, Pacific Rim influence, Native American influence (Northwestern Tribes, Navajo and other Southwest tribes), East Indian influence, . . . there is so much! )(wonder who in the East wrote that we don't have our own cuisines in the West!) - anyway, i am open to all the help i can get . . . it strikes me that many people must be interested in this - the whole 'locavore' thing is huge out here . . . seafood and its accessibility have major contributions . . . our early days involved sourdough . . . gee i forgot the sourdough bread thing . . . it's in the airports all around San Francisco as being a local phenomenon . . . our early days involved the ranches and cowboys and the chuckwagon . . . they involved the influence of Chinatowns and Japantowns in San Francisco and other major cities . . . the local food/fresh food thing must have been influenced by those early ethnic cuisine 'ghettos' - and we still consider those a major force where i live, in the San Jose area - come on folks, help me out . . i'm a newbie, but i don't want this page and this category to disappear! it seems really important to me, and i didn't start it and put up a two- or three-sentence thing that says there is 'no cuisine' out here! someone in the East musta done that! i'm trying to learn all the codes, the devices, the rules . . . but it's not easy! i just started out a while back to add a little to the Chris Cosentino piece, cuz i know him, and it has led me all over the place . . . to mountain biking articles, to castration (re Rocky Mountain Oysters . . . ) , to animal husbandry, to rodeos . . . - who knew it could take over my life so fast! b betswiki (talk) 16:43, 22 August 2008 (UTC) ok, i added a 'hangon,' which got me a template of some sort at the top - i could never see a 'speedy deletion' template, wherever that is - and i don't know from templates . . . i need help! - i went out and bought a big fat book on wikipedia procedures ('The Missing Manual') but the conventions seem very numerous and confusing! b betswiki (talk) 16:58, 22 August 2008 (UTC) had to come back and be sure my last message didn't include a 'hangon' with curly brackets, which i had typed into my mssg!!! egad! that got an ugly box on the page - b betswiki (talk) 17:01, 22 August 2008 (UTC) i certainly don't know from 'stubs' . .. does it define that somewhere? the number of characters or the elements required to become a nonstub? this piece was very very stubby before i arrived but had no mssg about deletion . . . i work on it for a day or so and suddenly it is to be deleted? seems illogical - it's longer than it was before i started! - b betswiki (talk) 17:03, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a category, not an article; you were turning it into an article. I've deleted all that stuff. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:12, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Orange Mike - now what? is the 'Cuisine of the United States' category piece ok? should i do something here patterned after that? it goes like this: 'The cuisine of the United States is a style of food preparation derived from the United States. The cuisine has a history dating back before the colonial period when the Native Americans had a rich and diverse cooking style for an equally diverse amount of ingredients. With European colonization, the style of cookery changed vastly, with numerous ingredients introduced from Europe, as well as cooking styles and modern cookbooks.' ('diverse amount of ingredients' would be in error - i suppose 'diverse array of ingredients . . . ' or something like that) ('diverse' does not describe 'amount' any way you look at it . . . ) - anyway, now what? i would like to talk about this category here - how do i do it? or is the piece under 'Cuisine of the United States' not something i can pattern this after? i'm new here . . . it is overwhelming . . . but fun . . . - in the subheadings i think Bison do not belong . . . nor does Shasta - maybe types of cooking do, though . . . - i think i would like to work on those subpages, if they are to exist - am kinda turned on to this topic now! - b —Preceding unsigned comment added by Betswiki (talkcontribs) 21:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
