Possible duplicate categories.[edit]

The following two categories seem like duplicates.

Category:Ethiopian prisoners and detainees

Category:Prisoners and detainees of Ethiopia

Should I combine them? If they are to be merged what should the residual category be?

(Baryaw (talk) 19:44, 27 June 2011 (UTC))[reply]

They are not the same. One is a subcategory of Category:Prisoners and detainees by nationality and one is a subcategory of Category:Prisoners and detainees by country. Category:Ethiopian prisoners and detainees is for p&d that are of Ethiopian nationality. Category:Prisoners and detainees of Ethiopia is for p&d that are imprisoned or detained by Ethiopia. It is possible for Ethiopia to detain non-Ethiopians, and it is also possible for an Ethiopian to be detained outside of Ethiopia. Good Ol’factory (talk) 21:44, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying. (Baryaw (talk) 16:19, 29 June 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Inclusion[edit]

Is this for current prisoners and detainees, or anyone who has ever been a prisoner or detainee? For example, as of this writing, Eskinder Nega is a prisoner but Teddy Afro is not. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:40, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Categories are almost never limited to "current" status. It would be for any Ethiopian person who was or is a prisoner or detainee. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:06, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
