Choral music[edit]

I have been searching in Music Genres (on the web generally, and here on Wikipedia) for anything about Choral music, but there is nothing listed under the headings "Choir" or "Choral". This is music sung by choirs or choral groups, both religious and non- religious. In the list of genres usually seen on Windows Music Player and other music programmes one rarely sees the genre "Choral" ("Chorus" is listed sometimes but that is not the relevant term). Please can someone add, to the very comprehensive list of genres here, something on Coral music. It would be much appreciated. Atmop (talk) 10:48, 25 May 2008 (UTC)atmop[reply]

Should all music genres be categorized as under "music genres" additionally to any subcategories?[edit]

So I found my way here as my category-addition to the Dubstep-article was revereted. I'm seeing some problems with how it's currently handled:

  1. The music genres category doesn't give you an overview of all music genres (which have wiki-articles) but requires you to look for and navigate towards some subset of music genres.
  2. Music genres are be part of multiple subcategories (which is a problem to what's described in #1).

I suggest adding the category to all music genres (no matter if they're already in a subcategory or not).
Please respond or forward me toward whatever place might be better suited for such a discussion (otherwise I might write some bot that does this job or sth).

@Fixuture I can not imagine, that many will like this idea. Please talk to the right people: On "music genres" category talk page, you find a link to the "music genres task force of the music project". There, please go to their talk page, and leave your text. For a faster reply, you can use the @-command, like I used here to contact you. The problem is, that on the category talk pages, there is almost nobody. Here you will likely get no response, except from me. I strongly oppose your suggestion, because the categories function is not to give you an overview, there are lists or outlines for that. Search for "List of music styles". The fundamental concept of wikipedia categories is that if you search through categories, you have a vague idea of what you are looking for and can find it via subcategories, which are an asset as they limit the amount of info you have to read in every category. @CreativeName1: Thanks for your reply (and doing what most people aren't doing - hence which is what Wikipedia needs), indeed by now I have noticed that apparently it's pretty uncommon to get replies on category talk pages...so whenever I've got a question concerning categories again I'm going to notify the relevant WikiProjects. For my suggestion: by now I think it's a better idea to have some functionality on the Wikipedia level to display categories in list- or visual tree- formatting (or sth alike). --Fixuture (talk) 20:24, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is some strange syntax in this users section. I vote to remove it.--Xavier (talk) 01:54, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's no reason to delete other users' contribution. I rstored it. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 02:52, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then remove the invalid syntax. There is no reason for it to exist. This might get removed permanently.
--Xavier (talk) 02:57, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There that is better. I realize it is your signature that creates it. Why does your signature have invalid syntax?

This list needs help![edit]

The following are sub-genres of music and should not be listed in the "Music Genres" section:

This one is not even a genre of music! Yikes!

--Xavier (talk) 01:49, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The sections have all been removed from the Music genres list. Whew!

Talk section removed[edit]

The last section added to this talk page contained an unknown syntax that may be harmful to viewers or Wikipedia. I tried removing the syntax itself but could not, so I removed the entire section. --Xavier (talk) 02:05, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain how the "syntax may be harmful". I restored the section. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 02:52, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If the syntax has malicious intentions it can be harmful. Some indications suggested this intention.

Music genre[edit]

How do I create a new music genre page? Billydee22 (talk) 23:27, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You could start by reading Wikipedia:Your first article and by asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 05:17, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
