Category definition

[edit]

The current category definition reads simply:

Oil fields of Scotland.

A discussion arising out of a CfD debate on this category led to a concern that the word "of" in the category title might be misleading, since oil licensing and taxation within the UK is currently a reserved matter under the Scotland Act 1998.

To clarify what the category describes, without getting too deeply into the ownership debate, I suggest that the category text should be changed to:

Oil fields in Scotland or its territorial waters, as defined by the Scottish Adjacent Waters Boundaries Order 1999.

Any objections| --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)

You will not be in the least surprised to learn that yes, you do have an objection, if you intend to nominate the actual cat for renaming to "in". However, I support your idea for the introduction clarification. There is absolutely no case for naming one of these categories in a different fashion from all the others. Either rename all of this group of cats to "in" or none of them. The cat does not claim to be about licensing or taxation, simply about geographical location.
I note that we have Category:Mountains and hills of Scotland, Canada, Nigeria etc, but Category:Towns in Scotland, Brazil, India etc, so the "in" versus "of" terminology seems to be open to debate. Nominate the entire oil fields group of cats for renaming and I may well support your proposal. --Mais oui! 07:48, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
