Eadric Streona was NOT executed under the Anglo-Saxons, but by the Danes. Eric Hlathir is said to have killed him with an axe on the orders of King Cnut in 1017, allegedly for having boasted of murdering Edmund Ironside whilst arguing with Cnut about a chess game- which Eadric Streona would not allow him to win by changing he rules.
