This category is not helpful and is potentially unwieldy. Better to have the articles classed under a Category:Serials which should be subcatted under Category:Narrative forms. The subcats of Sequels (Computer and video games sequels, sequel novels, Sequel films, and Unofficial sequels) should just be deleted. Thoughts? --lquilter23:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
First, I don't think this should be done lightly or hurriedly ... so this is a thought response rather than a proposal. But provisionally, a classification might look like Category:Narrative forms - Category:Serials - and then a bunch of various serial works, including Category:Television series, Category:Trilogies (a series of three), serial novels, serial movies, and so on. ... Probably, we should raise this on some art & lit project page; because series is a form that spans many media.
At any rate, I have no idea what it means to say, as the current Category:Sequels page does, that "This category is for sequel media. Included below are a list of more specific subcategories and media which has been categorized outside of them. Please do not add films, video games or novels to this category, but instead to the appropriate subcategory." What are "sequel media"? Why are films and novels and video games not included? (And in fact nobody is paying attention to that, apparently, since those are the three subcategories.) ... --lquilter01:07, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely something to bring in more people on and not rush. For the record, I amended most of the intro. I'm sorry if the "not in this category, but the appropriate subcat" wording wasn't clear. It turns out there are a lot of categories for "series" that use that term already. So, following the preexisting terminology, I created a "Category:Series" category which we could rename to "serials" later. It's a non-destructive addition, and doesn't involving moving or relocating or merging, so it won't screw anything up. In the meantime we can collate the appropriate series cats. I'll look around at the various lit & art projects to get people in to talk about how best to organize sequelae/trilogies/series and other serial narrative forms. --lquilter17:43, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
