main article?
[edit]The designated main article, List of states with limited recognition, includes 18 states, whereas here and in other related cats (see Category:Wikipedia categories named after states with limited recognition, the membership is being restricted to 12 states, which appears to be an arbitrary division of that list so as to exclude the 6 UN member states.
What do I mean by "arbitrary"? If we take instead the List of sovereign states, which includes all states, it is divided up by states in the UN system and 13 "other states". State of Palestine is treated in this list as "in the UN system".
If we used List of sovereign states/sovereignty as the guide we would have 13 states classed as "other states".
At the moment we have List of states with limited recognition/recognition with 12 of them classed as "limited recognition" including Palestine.
Let's take Flag of Palestine, an editor has added this article to Category:Flags of states with limited recognition but the main article for that cat is Gallery of sovereign state flags which logically follows the division as in the List of sovereign states and not as in List of states with limited recognition.
I am not entirely sure of the value in having cats such as Category:Spouses of national leaders of states with limited recognition so we might do away with this artificiality altogether or if not, then it is my view that we should be following the division suggested by List of sovereign states. The recently proposed renaming is relevant here, it seems possible that the decision to exclude the UN member states arises from that discussion but I do not see any consensus for that there. Selfstudier (talk) 14:55, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

The list of "other states" given in List of sovereign states includes Cook Islands and Niue, not currently in the List of states with limited recognition but does not include State of Palestine (so 13-2+1 =12 to reconcile). Selfstudier (talk) 11:22, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
