Edits by Utcursch[edit]

Two sites which most obviously should come directly under the Universities and colleges in India category were deleted by this person for no apparent reason. The two were: (i) Vedanta University - India's LARGEST and ONLY world class university from 2008. It should be the first one to be included in this category. (ii) NISER - an upcoming institution of national importance just like the IISERs, and funded by the DAE (like BARC and TIFR).

It is ridiculous why these two prominent institutions of obvious national importance were removed. No justification whatsoever.

NISER and Vedanta University may be of "obvious national importance", but since they are situated in Orissa, they go under respective subcategory. This is no bias against your home state, Orissa. The institutions which are directly under this category are the ones which have campuses in different states. Please read the guidelines at Wikipedia:Categorization. This issue is being discussed by you in my talk page already. Nobody mentioned any "bias" against "my home state". Kindly refrain from putting a regional spin on such an issue.

Category Organisation[edit]

India has around 232 universities with about 9,500 colleges under them [1]. Arranging these just in alphabetical order will overwhelm the reader browsing this catgory.

Proposed:[edit]

  • Categorise geographically [2] (under state sub-categories to begin with).
  • Categorise colleges based on the streams they offer: Arts / Science, Engineering, Law, Business, Medicine and Commerce.
  • Categorise national colleges like IIT's and NIT's separately.

I've started the work. The category is now smaller and more organized. utcursch | talk 09:52, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another proposal[edit]

  • University should be categorised separately than that of colleges as former is far fewer than latter and the collges can further be categorised geographically (as done by Utcursch) as well as under the corresponding university category.

Infobox[edit]

Please use Template:Infobox University India on all these pages. The result will look (for example), like in this article. deeptrivia (talk) 03:26, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regrouping the geographical categories[edit]

In common with various other large categories for India, and like Category:Universities and colleges in the United States, I think it would help users to put all the geographical state and territory categories together under Category:Universities and colleges in India by state or territory. Or just call it Category:Universities and colleges in India by state for brevity?? --Mereda 15:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC) I've done that now. --Mereda 14:01, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting articles on departments of universities[edit]

If anyone's interested, I've nominated two department articles for deletion at [3]. --Mereda 14:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
