Progress?

[edit]

The introduction at Category:Wikipedia media requiring renaming reads: "[…] will be processed by a bot"; is it? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 12:33, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eventually. When they turn the renaming feature back on. MBisanz talk 22:57, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Has it been turned on yet?↔NMajdantalk 13:34, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes.--Rockfang (talk) 19:19, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do we have a bot?↔NMajdantalk 01:13, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I am aware of.--Rockfang (talk) 09:49, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Which admins do this regularly?

[edit]

Is there a filemover right for non-admins, as there is at Commons?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 15:21, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is now. It is described at Wikipedia:File mover and you can request it at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/File mover.   — Jeff G.  ツ 19:44, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request rename of ANZAC biscuits.jpg

[edit]

Twice in the last couple of weeks I've tried to have ANZAC biscuits.JPG renamed by inserting {{Rename media}} onto the page, but each time the template has vanished a few days later when I have checked to see if it has been actioned. The file history doesn't show anything, and "my contributions" in namespace:file doesn't show it. Each time I added the template, it appeared after I saved the change, so I'm confident that I did it correctly. I've done the same thing successfully with other files a couple of times in the past, so I'm not a complete newbie at it.

  1. Does anybody have any hints as to what might have gone wrong?
  2. Could somebody please rename ANZAC biscuits.JPG to Anzac biscuits.jpg, so that it has the correct case. The reason for the rename is the same as the recent rename of the Anzac biscuit article, details on the talk page.

Thanks, Mitch Ames (talk) 13:30, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many of the images you see on Wikipedia are hosted on the Wikimedia Commons. You can easily and immediately recognize that an image is at the Commons when you see the Commons logo on the image description. You can't request a move or deletion or anything else for a Commons image here since we are a different (sister) site. You did edit the image page but you edited the Commons image page, and so a search for that history here is not going to find anything. Here's the history at the Commons, where your request was rejected on the stated reason that the caps issue was not significant enough to warrant a rename and did not meet their renaming criteria. You have to remember that they're a much lower-staffed project and, while we have 838,544 local media files, they have 10,786,729 media files, so I guess they're rather strict on meeting the criteria and not doing moves where it isn't critical, so that their resources are not stretched to thin.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:58, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks for that. I had clicked "File history" from the Wikipedia page and it just showed me the different versions of the file, a section on the same page. I had wondered why I didn't get a separate "history" tab as is the case with articles. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:56, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

500 files

[edit]

I am wondering what other file movers are doing. More then 500 file to be moved, with file movers count more than 2,000. Please help! Happy Editing. Karthik Nadar (talk) 17:43, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do it. Give me a bit of time :-) GSorbyPing! 09:12, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved a bunch since March, and I check for them each day.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 03:27, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Urm...

[edit]

Something's going on, I move the file but it only moves the rename template, possible glitch? GSorbyPing! 11:33, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are you talking about File:Coledale railway station entrance.jpg? That file was moved see Special:Log/move. What you are seeing there is another file with the same name on Commons. --SMasters (talk) 12:03, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know. I noticed that after the second move, I was thinking, where have I seen this before then Commons clicked to mind. Oh well I guess I will have to remove the tags. GSorbyPing! 13:49, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've tagged the page to be deleted. --SMasters (talk) 17:14, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up

[edit]

Berrely, Minorax: lately most of the time me and FlightTime keep this category empty. I think I need to log out for a week or so to WP:DETOX and get stuff done. It would be nice if someone could cover so the burden isn't entirely on FlightTime. It's not much work (especially with LuckyRename which you both already have) if the requests aren't left to pile up.Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 01:11, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 03:29, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
