Born in Worthing, Wakefield began his career with Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea.[2] He signed a loan deal with Stevenage in August 2017,[3] but never played for the club due to injury.[2]

He moved to Coventry City in January 2019.[4][5] He was released by Coventry at the end of the 2019–20 season.[6]

Wakefield signed for Wealdstone on a short-term deal on 2 October 2020.[7]

On 7 January 2021, Wakefield signed for National League side Bromley following his departure from Wealdstone.[8]

At the end of the 2020–21 season, Wakefield signed for fellow National League side Yeovil Town on a one-year deal following his departure from Bromley.[9] He extended his contract for another season in June 2022.[10] On 23 March 2023, Wakefield joined National League side Woking on loan until the end of the season.[11] At the end of the 2022–23 season, Wakefield was released by Yeovil following the club's relegation from the National League.[12]

On 14 June 2023, it was announced that Wakefield would return to Woking on a permanent basis, signing a one-year deal.[13] On 13 February 2024, Wakefield joined National League South side, Braintree Town on loan for the remainder of the campaign.[14] On 26 April 2024, it was announced that Wakefield would leave Woking at the end of his contract in June.[15]
