Chiara Mazzel (born 19 March 1996)[1] is an Italian para-alpine skier, who won multiple events at the 2023 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships. She competed at the 2022 Winter Paralympics.

Early life[edit]

Mazzel from Cavalese, Trento, Italy.[1] As a child, she was diagnosed with glaucoma, and was registered blind at the age of 18. In her spare time, she plays the French horn.[2] As of 2023, Mazzel lived in San Giovanni di Fassa.[1] In June 2023, Mezzel was wheeled up to the Everest South base camp in Nepal.[3]

Career[edit]

As a teenager, Mazzel participated in skiing and snowboarding.[2] She started competition events in 2019, alongside guide Fabrizio Casal.[2] She competes in visually impaired classification events.[1] Mazzel competed at the 2022 Winter Paralympics. She finished seventh in the slalom event.[4]

At the 2023 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Lleida, Spain, Mezzel won the downhill, super-G and Alpine combined events.[5][6] Later in the year, she won the super-G event at the Paralympic Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.[7][8]
