Delhi Premier League is a Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in union territories of Delhi in India.[1] organised by Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and first contested during the 2024 season.[2]

The league is contested by six teams representing different zones in union territories of Delhi.[3][4][5][6][7]

History

In August 2024, the Delhi Premier League was launched. The league was aimed to make up for the absence of high-profile matches in Delhi every year and to expose talented players from districts.

The Delhi Premier League 2024 Is A Domestic T20 Tournament Organized By The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA).

The Tournament Is Scheduled To Start On Saturday, August 17, And Will Conclude On Sunday, September 8. It Will Be The First Edition Of The Tournament.

A Total Of 40 Matches Are Scheduled To Take Place In This Edition Of The Tournament At The Arun Jaitley Stadium In Delhi.

A Total Of Six Teams Are Going To Participate In The Tournament. These Six Teams Are:South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Dilli

Virender Sehwag Has Been Roped In As The Brand Ambassador Of The Tournament.

The top four bidders in the men’s franchise auction also secured the women’s teams, which include:

  • North Delhi Strikers – Gupta Jee Tent Services Pvt. Ltd.
  • East Delhi Riders – Areion Finserve Pvt. Ltd.

The inaugural edition of the tournament has a draft of 270 players from all across Delhi, including national, U-23, and U-19. The players have been classified into four categories mentioned as follows:

  • Category A: IPL stars/ players with international experience
  • Category B: Players from the current senior Delhi team
  • Category C: Players from Delhi’s U-19 & U-23 teams
  • Category D: Top Performers of the Leagues of Delhi’s Clubs

Tournament structure

Six city-based teams will compete during the school summer holidays.There will be 18 matches in the league stage of the tournament, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-final stage. The winners of both the semi-final matches will be the finalists.
