2031 Pan American Games

The 2031 Pan American Games (Spanish: Juegos Panamericanos de 2031), officialy the XXI Pan American Games, is an upcoming international multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization.

Interested cities

• Asunción, Paraguay (with surfing in El Salvador)

Asunción will host the 2025 Junior Pan American Games and was the runner-up during the second selection of the 2027 Pan American Games which Lima, Peru eventually won. If their bid was successful, it could be the first time that Paraguay was to host the main Pan American Games. As Paraguay is a landlocked country, if Asunción was chosen as the host city, the surfing events would be held in El Salvador, as confirmed by the El Salvador Olympic Committee, making it the first continental Central American country to host any Pan American Games event. An article by The Sports Examiner suggested that Asuncion could bid for and host the 2031 Pan American Games "without delay" after making a "forceful and memorable" case to host the 2027 Pan American Games.

• Charlotte, United States of America

An article from WSOC-TV speculated Charlotte's odds of hosting major sporting events such as the 2031 Pan American Games and 2040 Olympics after Charlotte City Council approved US$650 million in renovations to Bank of America Stadium. A regional bid stretching into other North Carolina cities such as Greensboro may be necessary.

• São Paulo, Brazil

The city officially launched their bid for the 2031 edition in Santiago, Chile, a day before their 2023 Pan American Games began. São Paulo previously hosted the 1963 Pan American Games, and Brazil last hosted the Pan American Games in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro. If São Paulo were to host the Games, they would be the fourth city to host the games twice after Winnipeg, Canada; Mexico City, Mexico; and Lima, Peru. It would also make Brazil the third country after Mexico and Canada to host the games thrice.

• Winnipeg, Canada

Winnipeg previously hosted the 1967 and 1999 Pan American Games. City council was said to be exploring a bid for the 2031 Pan American Games as of November 2021. If Winnipeg earns these games, they would be the first city to host three Pan American Games, and Canada would be both the second country after Mexico to host the Games at least thrice and the first to host four times.
