  • Comment: Per WP:ORG, we need to see significant coverage, directly of the subject (and not some related matters such as their journal, or code of ethics, etc.) in multiple secondary sources that are both reliable and entirely independent of the subject. I don't believe any of the sources cited meets this standard. DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:08, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

The Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) is an international scholarly marketing association. The AMS holds two academic conferences each year and publishes two peer-reviewed academic journals.

History

[edit]

The AMS was founded in 1971 by a group of marketing scholars led by Dr. Harold W. Berkman of the C. W. Post Center of Long Island University to foster collaboration among scholars, educators, and practitioners. Berkman's intention was to offer a professional alternative to the American Marketing Association (AMA) by inviting membership from segments that were not a primary focus of AMA at the time.[1]

The first official gathering of AMS Fellows was in 1976 at an event called the AMS Marketing Symposium, which featured presentations by practitioners with academics serving as the audience. Paul Townsend was honored as the first AMS Distinguished Marketing Practitioner, an award still given by AMS today.[1][2]

Activities

[edit]

The AMS holds two academic conferences each year: The AMS Annual Conference and the World Marketing Congress (AMS WMC). The AMS Annual Conference, held in North America, hosts presentations, panels, and workshops centering around marketing topics. Since 2015, the AMS Annual Conference includes a two-day doctoral consortium. The AMS WMC was first held in 1983 as a biannual event, run outside North America. In the off AMS WMC years, AMS hosted conferences titled Minority Marketing, Multicultural Marketing, and Cultural Perspectives in Marketing.[1]

In 1973, the AMS began to publish Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science (JAMS), which primarily publishes empirical papers alongside conceptual and methodological acrticles.[3] JAMS is on the Financial Times Top 50 journal list.[4] Its 2023 Journal Citation Reports impact factor is 9.5. The AMS issues JAMS annual best paper and a long-term impact awards in the name of Jagdish N. Sheth and A. Parasuraman.

Since 2011, the AMS publishes AMS Review in its current format as a journal focusing on conceptual papers.[5] Scopus ranks the journal in Q1 in the marketing category,[6] the ABDC Journal Quality List and the German Academic Association for Business Research rank AMS Review a B journal.[7][8] An annual Best AMS Review Article award is given in the name of Shelby D. Hunt.

The AMS also edits the Developments in Marketing Science: Proceedings of the Academy of Marketing Science book series. The series compiles papers related to presentations at the AMS Annual Conference. It is published by Springer and indexed in Scopus.[9]

The AMS runs MarketingPhdJobs.org, which aggregates academic marketing openings on junior and senior levels.[10] In 2024, it launched AMS Illuminations, a podcast series in which marketing scholars and practitioners share their experiences and discuss recent developments in the field. In the same year, it launched AMS Sparks, a video platform that seeks to communicate findings from recent Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science and AMS Review articles.[citation needed]

The AMS issues several service, best paper, and dissertation awards.[11][12]
