Adia Sowho is a Nigerian technology executive renowned for her expertise in building and scaling technology ventures in emerging markets.[1] Most recently, she concluded her tenure as the first-ever female Chief Marketing Officer[2] for MTN Nigeria.[3] Sowho has had a career marked by significant contributions to the tech industry in Nigeria. Sowho's career highlights include launching Nigeria's first 5G network while working with the largest mobile telecommunications provider in the country[5]. She also served as the VP of Growth and Managing Director for Nigeria at Migo (formerly Mines.io), pioneering instant loan issuance with over four million loans to more than one million users within two years.

Before joining Migo, Sowho was the Director of Digital Business at 9mobile (formerly Etisalat Nigeria), where she grew the digital business revenue from less than $5 million to $100 million in five years[6]. In her role as CEO of Thrive Agric[7], she led a successful turnaround of the company during the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling the company to raise a pre-series A round and significantly increase its revenue.[8][9]

Adia Sowho holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Sheffield and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, with majors in Strategy, Analytical Consulting, Strategic Marketing, and Entrepreneurship.[10] She has over 20 years of experience in the telecoms and consulting industries, with previous positions at The U.S. Cellular Corporation, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and Etisalat Nigeria.

Other interests[edit]

Sowho is also an active angel investor and advisor, sitting on the boards of several tech startups and scale-ups, including Sankore Investments, VerifyMe, and ETAP Insurance.[11] She is actively involved in advocacy for the empowerment and upskilling of the African tech ecosystem, dedicating over a decade to public speaking, mentoring, and pro-bono advisory roles.[12]
