Al Goled (Arabic: القولد, Romanized: Al Quuld) is a city located in the Northern State (Sudan) on the west bank of The Nile River. It is situated south of Dongola, the capital city of Northern Sudan, and north of Al Dabbah.[1][2]
Although Al Goled is not a small city, there are no significant industries or businesses in the region, instead most of the population is concerned with the dominant trade of agriculture, which is encouraged by the plentiful groundwater that is made available by the Nile.[3] Those not involved in the cultivation of the land perform their labor in local services. Travel to and from the city is most commonly done via the National Highway 35[4]
A distinguishing feature of Al Goled is its bustling marketplace which opens only each Monday, drawing in visitors from the neighboring cities and villages in pursuit of both buying and selling goods. It is said that this market is quite the sight, almost overflowing with goods, peoples, voices, and songs.[3]
