Al Jazira Group is a Middle East-based conglomerate that operates a chain of supermarkets along with running established food and travel services (Capital Travel Agency). Founded formally in 1965, Al Jazira Group has over 700+ employees of various nationalities across its different departments.
For over 50 years, Al Jazira has strived to be the purveyor of both home-grown and international range of products in Bahrain through its 15 retail outlets. As an exclusive distributor of several international brands such as Heinz, L’Oréal, Nestle, McVitie’s, Pinar, Hero, Unilever, Americana, Mazola, Sun Top, Bahlsens, Sara Lee, Nectaflor, Al Karamah, Lurpak, Tilda, General Mills etc., as of 2022, Al Jazira holds substantial market share on the island.
History
[edit]Al Jazira’s informal inception took place in the early 1950s when late Mr. Khalil Murtaza Dawani traded foreign food products at the Manama Souq. After his business flourished, he went on to establish a formal foodstuff trading company on Qassim Al Mehza Road in Manama. High-quality and unique products were imported from the UK, Holland, Denmark, India and the GCC to be sold and distributed throughout Bahrain.
In 1965, Al Jazira as it is known today was born with its first store in Adliya. From one store to now fifteen retail outlets (Adliya, Zinj, Juffair, Hoora, Seef, Budaiya Janabiya, Hamala, Jasrah & Riffa) and five Express stores (Manama, Qudaibiya, Sehla, Karannah & Tala Island), the brand has grown from strength to strength. The Group is currently being led by Mr. Abdulhussain Khalil Dawani - Chairman of the Board, Mr. Abdul Hameed Dawani - Director, Mr. Ahmed Redha Murtadha Dawani - Director, Mr. Sameer Mohammed Sadeq Khalil Dawani - Director, Mr. Subhankar Patra - Director and Mr Ujjal Kumar Mukherjee - Group CEO.

[edit]The Al Jazira Group is split into Retail, Wholesale, Food Services and Warehouse Services & in-house project division.
Retail
[edit]The Retail Division – the heart of Al Jazira’s functions hosts over 400 employees. They are responsible for enabling access to Al Jazira’s grocery (dry & frozen), beverages, dairy, deli, meat, household and other non-food products to its customers.
In addition to stocking a wide variety of imported products from Bahrain as well as around the globe, Al Jazira Retail takes pride in its commitment to providing the highest quality of fresh foods through its outlets. This includes the finest fruits and vegetables, grass-fed beef and lamb as well as a diversified bakery serving the freshest breads, cakes, pastries and savouries. The team maintains a ‘Delicatessen’ Section that offers a wide range of specially sourced olives and cheeses. These include organic, gluten free, vegetarian & vegan cheeses along with regular cheeses sourced from the United Kingdom, Holland, France, Italy and Spain.
Al Jazira Retail also offers a loyalty program – ‘Al Jazira Loyalty’ – as a way of recognising and thanking its most loyal customers. The program helps collect loyalty points when they shop in-store or online through the Al Jazira App.
Wholesale (Selling & Distribution)
[edit]Al Jazira Group is also involved in the wholesale distribution of a large variety of products at a wide range of prices including food, skincare, make-up, haircare, & hair colour. They are exclusive distributors for food brands such as Americana, Heinz, Betty Crocker and Mcvities.
Al Jazira Group is also exclusive distributors for non-food brands such as L’Oréal Paris, Garnier, Maybelline and Redken.
Food Services
[edit]Al Jazira Group attends to the needs of Bahrain’s leading hotels, restaurants, cafes and businesses including the Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Hilton, Sofitel, The Gulf Hotel, Le Chocolat, Movenpick, Kingdom Gourmet, Jasmis, Al Ghalia, and Alshaya Group.
Apart from enjoying long-standing relationships with its clientele as a Bahrain-born firm, the department also holds a unique product portfolio including international brands such as Fonterra, Heinz, Americana, Lurpak, Anchor, Mazola, Tilda, McVitie's, Hero, Pinar and CORO.
Warehouse Services
[edit]Over 100 members of staff manage the logistics of Al Jazira’s goods from their warehouses in Tubli and Mina Salman into their stores and other centers. With a storage capacity of 12,900 sq mt in total including cold room capacity of 4050 sq.mt and an extensive fleet (temperature controlled) of 100+ vehicles, the well-trained team tackles over 300-350 pallets deliveries per day.
