Albert Berry (born August [when?]), known as Al Berry, is an American musician, bassist, singer-songwriter, producer, and recording artist. His work includes soul, rock, funk, and blues, reflecting his early musical influences. He has collaborated with such artists as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, Kelly Clarkson, and Avril Lavigne.

Early life and career[edit]

Berry was born in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was immersed in a vibrant mix of soul, rock, funk, and blues from a young age. His musical journey began in the bands of Frederick Douglass High School, supported by its dedicated Music Careers Department. His talent and dedication led to a scholarship for classical vocal studies at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

In the mid-1980s, Berry moved to New York City where he was mentored by record producer Nile Rodgers. During this period, he contributed to several projects, including the Grammy-winning album "Family Style" with the Vaughan Brothers[1] and Ric Ocasek's solo album "Fireball Zone."

Berry's role extended beyond studio sessions; he was a member of the house band for VH1's New Visions Soul and Rock shows, where he performed with such artists as Bobby Womack and Dianne Reeves. This exposure provided him a platform to gain visibility in the competitive music scene of the time.

In December 1991, Berry relocated to Los Angeles to further his career as a singer-songwriter and recording artist with the band Civilization. Songs he wrote were featured in such films as Silent Trigger and Sugar Valentine. His solo album "Take The Pain Away" was featured on the soundtrack for the film Crash.

After several solo releases, Berry shifted to supporting roles, touring internationally with such artists as Kelly Clarkson, Lisa Marie Presley, and Avril Lavigne (The Best Damn Tour), among others.

Personal life[edit]

Al Berry has three children; and one grandchild.
