Alessandro Masala (Italian pronunciation: [alesˈsandro ˈmaːzala]; born 11 February 1984 in Cagliari), known by his online pseudonym ShooterHatesYou, gained popularity on the internet for his daily video content on the YouTube channel Breaking Italy. He specializes in providing information and infotainment content.[2] He has also worked as a blogger for il Fatto Quotidiano[3] and founded his own clothing brand inspired by Sardinian mythology, called Heya.[4] Additionally, he has been the creator and host of various cultural and political podcasts and shows, including Breaking Italy Podcast, Breaking Italy Night, and Grandi Linee.

Biography[edit]

Alessandro Masala was born on February 11, 1984, in Cagliari, Italy; he completed his scientific high school diploma at Liceo Leon Battista Alberti in 2004. Subsequently, he enrolled at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Cagliari in 2005 but later switched to Political Science in 2006, ultimately leaving his studies in 2008.

Before gaining fame on the internet, he attended the Hotel Business School and worked in the hotel industry as a concierge, relocating first to Rome and then to Milan. He also pursued a career in art as a painter.

In 2011, he landed on YouTube with the channel Breaking Italy, and starting from 2019 and 2022, he continued his activity on the web with the podcasts Breaking Italy Podcast and Grandi Linee. Since 2020, he has been the host of the theatrical show Breaking Italy Night (previously Breaking Italy Podcast), where he interviews various personalities from the world of politics, journalism, or entertainment.

Career on the Web[edit]

In 2011, he launched his YouTube channel Breaking Italy, where he started uploading daily videos covering current affairs, politics, and technology[2]. The channel's popularity led to a collaboration with il Fatto Quotidiano, which lasted until 2014.[3]

In 2015, Masala professionalized his online activity, renting studios for video production and expanding his team.

From 2016 to 2018, he won the Best Political Opinion Website category at the Macchianera Awards for three consecutive years,[5][6][7] a prestigious award for Italian bloggers, and 2023, he won the Factanza Awards in the category of News e Attualità (News and Current Affairs).[8]

In 2019, he began hosting the Breaking Italy Podcast, featuring in-depth cultural conversations with prominent figures, mainly from the political world. The podcast is also available in audio format on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

In 2022, he started hosting the online podcast Grandi Linee, where he and his team analyze and comment on daily news.

Starting in 2021, Masala continued the interviews he started with Breaking Italy Podcast in live theater events, initially at Teatro Franco Parenti and later at Teatro Carcano. The events are called Breaking Italy Night and have featured guests such as Fedez,[9] Elly Schlein,[10] Roberto Saviano,[11] and more.
