Alexander Burriss (born March 28, 1990)[2], better known as Alex Wassabi, is a Filipino-American YouTuber and actor known for his comedy sketches and vlogs on his self-titled YouTube channel. He initially gained popularity as one half of the YouTube duo Wassabi Productions, alongside Roi Fabito, also known as Guava Juice. As of October 2024, his channel has over 11 million subscribers, making him a notable figure in the online entertainment space.[3]

Career

[edit]

Burriss gained widespread recognition as one half of the comedy duo behind the YouTube channel Wassabi Productions, where he collaborated with Roi Fabito.[3] The duo became known for their comedic sketches, parodies, and challenges. One of their first viral successes came with the "Call Me Maybe" parody video, which garnered over 100 million views, catapulting their channel to fame.[4]

In 2016, Roi Fabito left Wassabi Productions[5], and branched out to focus on his solo channel, Guava Juice.[6] Burriss continued running the channel solo and shifted the focus to include more vlogs and personal content, building a strong individual following. His channel continued to grow, and as of October 2024, he has over 11.4 million subscribers.[3]

In May 2023, Burriss reunited with Fabito, launching a new collaborative YouTube channel Spicy Fruit.[7] On January 27, 2024, Fabito returned to Wassabi Productions and Spicy Fruit was turned into a podcast.[8] On September 28, 2024, Fabito and Burriss announced on YouTube that Fabito was leaving Wassabi Productions for a second time due to financial reasons, with Burriss taking sole ownership of the channel again and bringing his vlogs back. Fabito returned to the Guava Juice channel full-time. However, they plan to continue the Spicy Fruit podcast.[9]

Personal Life

[edit]

Burriss has three siblings: an older brother, Aaron, a younger sister, Mariah, and a younger brother, Andrew.[2] Both of his brothers are YouTubers; Aaron runs the Aaron Burriss channel, formerly known as Lazyron Studios,[10] while Andrew runs the Andrew Wassabi channel.[11] Aaron married Veronica Merrell, one of the Merrell Twins, in 2022.[12]

From 2015-2018, Burriss dated fellow YouTuber Lauren Riihimaki also known as LaurDiy.[13]

In 2022, Burriss started dating actress and model Alexxis Lemire.[14]
