Alex Mills (born 30 June 1990) is a Welsh Entrepreneur and Media Personality from Cardiff, Wales. He was the first Welsh Candidate on the BBC Programme The Apprentice and appeared in Series 9 in 2013. Although Alex did not win the program, he is now regarded as the most successful candidate from The Apprentice.[1] after he appeared in the 2021 Sunday Times Rich List. Alex is the founder and CEO of Insurance Technology business Dynamo Cover, which he founded in 2013 and still runs the business today.

Early Life[edit]

Born in Cardiff, Mills moved out of the city with his family in his youth. His mum ran a children’s nursery and his dad worked his way up to manage a local furniture business. He attended Cowbridge Comprehensive School. When Mills was 16 he left school and played in various Metal bands in and around South Wales while also working as a Housekeeper in The Vale of Glamorgan Hotel and Golf Resort.[2]

Business Career[edit]

Although Mills use to organise various music events and gig, his first business was a company making bespoke slate signs. After The Apprentice, Mills set up a Joint Venture with a Welsh insurance company selling bicycle insurance. Although the Joint Venture did not succeed, he ended up with a job at the firm until he was made redundant in 2016. He went home and then re-started the business Dynamo Cover[2].

Dynamo Cover[edit]

Mills re-launched Dynamo Cover in 2017 moving away from Bicycle Insurance, and instead focussed on Breakdown Insurance, Gadget Insurance and other Personal Lines Insurance Products. Mills has lead the company since it's inception and continues to lead it to this day. Dynamo Cover won 'Best Fintech in Europe' in 2022 winning the DIA Diamond Award. The company has ambitions to become a Unicorn Tech Business quoting in an interview with WalesOnline "We're going for a billion and I think we can do it. I don't think there's anything that says we can't,"[3]

Personal Life[edit]

Mills is Married with a Daughter and 2 Sausage Dogs. In an article in The Sun newspaper he explained his passion for Supercars, driving a number of Ferraris, Land Rovers and his Rolls-Royce. He is also quoted as saying "My hope is that I will be valued over a billion and I would be Wales' youngest self-made billionaire", His hobbies include Shooting and Cooking and he is still playing and attending various metal music performances.
