Alexander Vainstein is an Israeli biochemist, currently a full professor at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.[1]
He has authored over 160 scientific papers and books.[2]
He is the incumbent of the Wolfson Family Chair, served as Head of the Hebrew University Graduate Biotechnology Program and The Institute of Plant Sciences and Genetics in Agriculture and as President of the Israeli Society of Plant Sciences.
Among recent notable work is engineering a cannabis strain with 20% more THC[3] and modifying lettuce to improve its nutritional value[4]. Earlier work included returning the fragrance of wild ancestors to cultivated flowers.[5][6]
