Alfred Zeller (June 6, 1917-1987) was a German businessman and founder of the Ecuadorian company, Eteco. He was born in Hamburg, Germany.

Biography

[edit]

Zeller was the son of the German portrait painter, Rudolph Jacob Zeller, and Eva Behn Zeller[1]. Alfred Zeller's father was Jewish and his mother was a Gentile. His mother committed suicide during the Nazi occupation of Germany. Alfred Zeller had a brother named Richard.

In 1938, Alfred Zeller emigrated from Germany to Ecuador. In 1944, he was sent to a War Relocation Authority (WRA) internment camp in Texas via the Department of State’s Special War Problems Division--as authorized by Executive Order 9066 (Feb. 19, 1942).

Zeller returned to Ecuador after the War, marrying Julia Starcevich in 1949. They had four children. Zeller died in Quito in 1987.
