Amaka Offiah is a Professor of Paediatric Musculoskeletal Imaging at the University of Sheffield, and a Consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust..[1] She is one of only 210 Black female professors in the UK [2]
Career and research interests[edit]
Amaka completed her undergraduate studies in medicine in Nigeria, before moving to the UK and completing her training in radiology at the University of Sheffield. She completed her PhD at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust.
Amaka's research into paediatric musculoskeletal imaging focuses on determining whether fractures are likely to have been the result of either trauma or disease such as osteogenesis imperfecta, to aid detection of child abuse.[3]
She is co-author of several radiology books, including the Radiological Atlas of Child Abuse[4] and Fetal and Perinatal Skeletal Dysplasias.[5]
Professional activities[edit]
Amaka is managing editor for the journal Pediatric Radiology.[6] She chairs the Child Abuse Taskforce of the European Society of Paediatric Radiologists[7], and is Co-Chair of the Executive Coordinating Group for the Race Equality Charter at the University of Sheffield.[8]
