Anna Salomea Stroka (15 April 1923–10 July 2020) was a Polish philologist, literary historian and university lecturer.[1]

Early life[edit]

After graduating from high school in Racibórz, she moved to Breslau in 1948, where she studied German language and literature at the university and graduated with a master's degree in 1953. In 1962 she received her doctorate and was employed as a research assistant at the University of Wrocław.

After her habilitation in 1974, she was employed as a university lecturer at the University of Wrocław. In 1992 she was appointed professor and from 2002 she worked at the Philological College in Wrocławiu.

She researched and published writings on the brothers Carl and Gerhart Hauptmann as well as monographs on German poetry and German and Austrian drama from the 18th to the 20th century. In 1982 she published the tragicomedy Die Ratten by Gerhart Hauptmann. She was also involved in the editing and publication of several volumes of Carl Hauptmann's complete edition.

Anna Stroka was a long-standing member of, among others: Gerhart-Hauptmann-Gesellschaft in Berlin, Wrocław Scientific Society (Wrocławskie Towarzystwo Naukowe), Verband Polnischer Germanisten (VPG) (Stowarzyszenie Germanistów Polskich), Theodor Fontane Gesellschaft e. V. in Neuruppin and the Goethe-Gesellschaft in Weimar e. V.
