Arhan Bagati (born June 15, 1999) is an Indian public policy advocate and development researcher from Jammu & Kashmir, India. He is recognized for his advocacy work with Paralympic athletes in India, his leadership in development-focused research on Jammu & Kashmir, and his active involvement in global policy initiatives. Bagati is the founder of KYARI (Kashmir's Yumberzal Applied Research Institute) and is currently pursuing a Master's in Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.[1].

Early Life and Education

Arhan Bagati was born in Delhi, India, into a Kashmiri Pandit family. He completed his schooling at The Shriram School, TSRS, Delhi. After completing his International Baccalaureate, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics with a specialization in Comparative Politics and a minor in Asian Studies from Pomona College, USA[2]. He is currently furthering his education at John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, focusing on public policy[3].

Advocacy for the Paralympic Movement

Bagati began his association with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) as a teenager and was appointed the Awareness and Impact Ambassador in 2015[4]. At just 16 years old, he launched the "InRio" app to assist Indian Paralympic athletes during the 2016 Rio Paralympics[5]. He later introduced the "IndTokyo" app to support athletes for the Tokyo Paralympics[6]. At 22, he became the youngest Deputy Chef de Mission for the Indian contingent at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics[7].

KYARI and Development Research

Bagati is the founder of KYARI, a research institute aimed at addressing socio-economic issues in Kashmir, India. Through KYARI, he has worked on developmental research projects focusing on rural tourism, climate change, and community welfare, particularly targeting tribal groups like the Bakkarwal pastoralists[8]. Bagati has also led initiatives to revitalize Kashmir's economy through tourism, advocating for Bollywood productions to return to the region[9].

Bagati has been instrumental in various public policy initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of Jammu & Kashmir.
