Aroh Welankar

Aroh Welankar (born 14 November 1989) is an Indian actor known for his contributions to Marathi theatre and the Marathi film industry. With a career spanning over eight years in theatre, both in Marathi and Hindi, Aroh has several accolades as an actor.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Aroh was born on November 14, 1989, in Pune, Maharashtra, India. He pursued his engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT). Alongside his academics, Aroh participated in one-act play competitions across Maharashtra, where he won best actor awards.[1]

Theatre Career[edit]

Aroh's journey in theatre began during his college years. For six years, he wrote and directed one-act plays for various theatre groups and colleges, gaining recognition in the theatre community. Furthermore, he soon paved the way for his transition to the silver screen.[2]

Film Career[edit]

Aroh's film career took a leap with his role in the Marathi film 'Rege'.[3] He starred alongside Mahesh Manjrekar in the title role. The film, written by Pravin Tarde and shot by Mahesh Limaye, was a critical and commercial success. Aroh has won several prestigious awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Chitra Padarpan Award, Filmfare Marathi Award, and Zee MFK Award for Best Debut in 2015.[1]

Aroh continued to build on his early success with performances in various films. His film 'Funral', which addressed social issues, won the National Award for Best Film on Social Issues (Rajat Kamal) in 2021, where he played the title lead. After that he acted in films like 'Ghantaa' and 'Hostel Days', and has took on the role of Subhash Nagare in Ram Gopal Varma's upcoming untitled project.

Upcoming Projects[edit]

Aroh made his Bollywood debut in 'Chandu Champion' in 2024, directed by Kabir Khan and starring alongside Karthik Aryan. He is also involved in two untitled Marathi films as the lead and will appear in 'Dharmaveer 2' by Zee Studios and Pravin Tarde, and 'Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat' by Mahesh Manjrekar in prominent roles. Additionally, Aroh is set to make his directorial debut with the cinematic stage show 'Veer', scheduled to premiere later this year.

Commercial Theatre[edit]

Apart from films, Aroh has also made contributions to commercial theatre. His play 'Why So Gambhir' was nominated for Best Comedy Play at the Zee Gaurav Awards in 2019, adding another feather to his cap.

Television[edit]

Aroh has also been on television, having been a finalist in Big Boss Marathi Season 2 and Season 4.[4][5] In 2020, Aroh also starred in 'Ladachi Mi Lek Ga', a Marathi Televison series on Zee Marathi.[6]

Business Endeavors[edit]

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Aroh is also an entrepreneur. He currently serves as the Director of Welan Technologies,[7] demonstrating his versatility and capability in both creative and business fields.
