Art And Animation studio (AAA studio) is a Czech animation studio producing films, which was founded in 1990 as one of the first private studios in the Czech Republic.

History

[edit]

The studio was founded by husband and wife Dagmar Doubková and Jan Sarkandr Tománek, long-time creators of copyrighted animated films, for which they won prizes at film festivals in Chicago, Hiroshima, Bilbao and Moscow. In 2005, the legal form of the studio changed from an association of natural persons to a limited liability company, which was founded by their son, director and artist Jan Tománek, who shot the Goat Story films in 2008 and 2012.[1][2][3]

Goat Story was the first Czech-produced feature-length computer-animated film,[4]

Production started in 2003 at Jan Tománek's family Art And Animation studio along with David Sláma who co-wrote the script for the film. The film budget was just $1.8 million for release in 2008.

Czech actors were: Jiří Lábus, Matěj Hádek, Mahulena Bočanová, Michal Dlouhý, Petr Pelzer, Jan Přeučil, Viktor Preiss, Miroslav Táborský, Karel Heřmánek, Petr Nárožný, Dalimil Klapka, Pavel Rímský, Ota Jirák, Filip Jevič and Justin Svoboda.

David Solař wrote the music for the film. Development, animation, lighting, color and storyboarding of the film was done in Prague, Czech Republic. The Czech distributor was Bontonfilm.

The film appeared on the cover of the March 2008 edition of American publication Animation.[5]

Goat Story was released in theatres on 16 October 2008 by Bontonfilm, and it won the main prize at the 2010 Buenos Aires International Children's Film Festival,[6] and received nominations at other film festivals. A sequel, Goat Story 2, was released in 2012.

Mike Buffo and Jo-Anne Krupa joined the cast on 9 July to supply the voices Jemmy and Katy in the English version which was produced by Karl Hirsh in 2008. The US sales agent was Phase 4 Films, headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but all of the rights are now owned by Art And Animation studio.

For the sequel Goat Story 2, The film was animated by a changed team from the first film, with animators joining the project from countries including Spain, Bulgaria and India.[7] The film was released in 2D and 3D[8] and was rendered in in-house GPU renderer FurryBall.[9][10] It also was possibly the first world feature animated movie that was rendered completely on GPU.[citation needed]

Movies and some series of the AAA studio can be seen on Youtube on their official channel in many languages.[11]

From 2022, the company also started publishing books.
