The Badaun Double Murder occurred on March 20, 2024, in the city of Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, India. Mohd Sajid, a 22-year-old salon owner, perpetrated the crime, resulting in the deaths of two minor brothers and his subsequent death in a police encounter.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Incident[edit]

At approximately 8 pm local time, Mohd Sajid, residing in the Alapur area of Budaun, forcibly entered the residence of his neighbor, contractor Vinod Thakur. Sajid attacked Vinod Thakur's sons, Ayush (13) and Ahaan alias Honey (6), with a sharp weapon, fatally injuring them. Vinod Thakur's third son, Piyush (8), sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.

The incident sparked outrage among the locals, leading to the setting on fire of several shops in the vicinity, as the crowd demanded swift action against the perpetrator.

Police Encounter[edit]

In response to the public outcry and escalating tension, law enforcement authorities launched a search operation to apprehend Mohd Sajid. However, Sajid engaged in a confrontation with the police in a forested area, during which he fired at the officers. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Sajid sustained fatal injuries and succumbed while being transported to the hospital.

Aftermath[edit]

The motive behind the double murder remains under investigation, with initial reports suggesting a dispute over money as a potential cause. Security measures were heightened in the Baba colony area following the incident to maintain public order.

District Magistrate Manoj Kumar issued an appeal for calm, urging residents to refrain from engaging in further violence.
