Baljeet Kaur is an Indian mountaineer, from the state of Himachal Pradesh who holds numerous climbing records. She is the recipient of the prestigious Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Mountaineering from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation in 2023.[1]

She has achieved numerous milestones, being the first Indian to conquer five 8,000 m peaks in under 30 days.[citation needed] Additionally, she has scaled two 8,000 m peaks, including Annapurna, without relying on supplemental oxygen. [2][1]

Personal life[edit]

Baljeet Kaur's mountaineering journey began in her Himachal village, where she climbed small hills as a child. Her passion ignited at a NCC camp at 20. Despite a humble background, her father, Amrik Singh, a bus driver, and her mother, Shanti Thakur, supported her dreams. Baljeet, one of three children, worked in households and ran a crowdfunding campaign with her mother selling jewelry to fund expeditions.[3][4][failed verification]
