Benji Levy, Ph. D. is an Australian-Israeli Orthodox rabbi, author, and educator.
Life and work[edit]
Levy holds a BA in Media and Communications and Honors in Jewish Civilization, Thought & Culture from the University of Sydney, an Education degree from Herzog College in Israel, and is an ordained rabbi. He completed a PhD in Jewish philosophy for which he received the Australian Postgraduate Award.[1]
As a teenager, Benji Levy always looked forward to Counterpoint camp in Stanwell Tops. As a young adult, while completing his rabbinic studies in Israel, he returned to serve as head counselor. Finally, at 25, an ordained rabbi, he returned with his wife to take over the directorship of Moriah College’s flagship program and run the residential seminars focusing on Jewish studies for over 600 students in years 8-11.[2] He became Director of Informal Jewish Studies at Moriah College and age 26, he became Dean of the school.
He served as the Dean of Moriah College in Sydney Australia from 2013 to 2018. There, he excelled in Jewish Life and Learning and grew the teen Israel program.[3], and currently serves as a global ambassador and board member of the Moriah College fund. [4] [5] He founded several successful programs including the Kesher Academy for adult education[6], and the Mikolot: Voices of the Future international public speaking competition [7].
After stepping down as dean, in addition to his international traveling speaking engagements, and writing, he built Mosaic United where he advanced the idea of flipping the paradigm, ensuring Israel invests in Jews outside of its borders[8]. He is the founding chairman of the Shalom Corps [9] [10], a project to increase the number of Jewish volunteers around the world. He serves as a board member at Koren Publishers [11] He is also a world council member of Bnei Akiva[12].
Recognition and selected publications[edit]
Levy was awarded the ‘Educator of the Year Award’ by JNF Australia for his leadership and service[13]. He received the Australian Postgraduate award for his PhD. He is the author of An Oasis in Time: Seven Thoughts for the Seventh Day[14], An Integrated Whole is Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts[15], Epilogue: A Reawakening, and Fate & Faith: The Ongoing Covenants.[16]
He contributes articles regularly on the topic of Diaspora-Israel Jewry[17] [18]and inspiring the Jewish youth[19][20]
Personal life[edit]
As of 2023, he is married with four children and lives in Jerusalem.[21]
