  • Comment: Non-notable subject matter on a topic of dubious notability, given the article has been deleted four times before. The sources mainly rely on promotional channels, social media links or interview sources - all of which are primary sources not independent of the subject. There simply isn't enough coverage from secondary reliable sources independent of the channel to suggest notability at this stage. VRXCES (talk) 20:37, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

History

[edit]

In 2015, Chunkz and Sharky were making videos together alongside Chunkz’s cousin Darkest Man[4]. Aj Shabeel was working as Chunkz’s cameraman, and eventually started appearing in videos. At the time, Niko Omilana and Kenny were friends, but were making content on their own channels, but, in 2016, Niko met Chunkz and they began to make content together. That same year, each member would meet each other and make plans to create a YouTube group and move in together.[3]

In February 14, 2019, the Beta Squad YouTube channel was created.

Beta Squad House

[edit]

In 2020, the members of Beta Squad moved into a new mansion, in association with Studo 71, as part of a new-reality content. The intention was for BETA SQUAD to tap into an important shared discourse and audience pool, representing young BAME personalities from the UK – voices that have historically been overlooked by traditional media.[5][6]. In April 2022, Beta Squad uploaded a video titled "Beta Squad Mukbang", where they announced they were no longer living together because of a situation revolving around the landlord[7]

Controversy

[edit]

On February 12, 2022, Beta Squad uploaded a video titled “We Pretended To Work At The Grocery Store (Fake Employee Prank)”. The store was being managed by a Sikh man who introduced himself as ‘Milan’ during the video, and when instructed by Niko, Sharky approached him and said “I think it’s Sikh that you are Sick”.

After the video’s release, Beta Squad faced backlash from the community on social media. However, they were quick to respond, posting an apology on Twitter, saying “In our most recent video, we said some things that have upset the Sikh community, we just want to say sorry to anyone this may have offended, some things seem like a good idea at the time, now looking back we realize how poor that was”.[8][9]
