Bhursingh Shekhawat was a realist painter from Rajasthan, India. He was born in Dholiya village in Bikaner and was known for his depictions of Rajasthan's culture and everyday life.[1][2][3][4]
Early life[edit]
Shekhawat received his early education in Pilani and was recognized for his talent by Padmashri Sukhdev Pandey, leading to a scholarship for him to study at the JJ School of Arts in Mumbai in 1932.
Career[edit]
During his tenure as a teacher at Birla Educational Institute, Pilani, Shekhawat painted on various subjects, focusing on the tempera method. His paintings often portrayed rural life, depicting scenes such as milling, weaving, and marketplaces.
His artworks included depictions of revolutionaries, patriotic leaders, and scenes from Mahatma Gandhi's life, showcasing his diverse range of subjects. Shekhawat's paintings prominently showcased the Rajasthani effect, capturing the essence of rural life with vividness and liveliness.
