Brent B. Arnold is an American cellist, composer, and record producer based in New York City.[1]

Biography

[edit]

Brent Arnold was born and raised in Sacramento, California..[2]. His first instrument was the guitar. He started the cello in his late teens[1].

He studied cello, jazz, and composition at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington,[1] under jazz violinist Michael White and cellist Walter Gray, founding cellist of the Kronos Quartet.[3][4]

He is known for an unconventional approach to the cello that involves non-Western musical techniques and electronic processing.[2]

He is an original member of Ghost Quartet with Brittain Ashford, Gelsey Bell, and Dave Malloy[5]. He composed for and performed in the dance piece Let The Crows Come (2019), by choreographer Ashwini Ramaswami[6]

In 2021, he was the conductor and music director for the live performance of Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe's original score to the film Candyman, dir. Nia DaCosta, at the Unsound Festival in Krakow, Poland.[7]

He composed music for the films The Saint of the Impossible and Hotel Pennsylvania and created the cello music for several seasons of the show Louie (TV series)
