- Comment: Sources have not been improved since last submission. DrowssapSMM 14:49, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: YouTube and Soundcloud are not reliable sources, the tour source is only a passing mention, and interviews are generally not independent as in this case. Kline • talk to me! • contribs 00:34, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Nnabugwu George Ugochukwu Onyeyirichi Thompson (born July 10, 1992, Los Angeles), also known as Bugus, is a Nigerian-American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. After creating music in his basement at 16, Bugus began his career in 2010 with the release of his EP, Bugus(Demo). Following the release, Bugus had his first show and then had his second show as an opener for Cyhi the Prince, Yelawolf, and Big Krit after Bugus had toured in Germany in 2019, and in 2023, toured the United Kingdom. Outside of his solo career, he is part of the Atlanta-based hip-hop collective DIEMON, which is an acronym for Do It Everyday Music or Nothing.[1][2][3]
Early life[edit]
Nnabugwu Thompson was born on July 10, 1992, in Los Angeles, California. Both of Thompson's parents are from Nigeria; his father, Obi Thompson, is from Abia State, and his mother, Ebele Thompson, is from Enugu State.
Thompson, was given "Bugus" as a childhood nickname, and carried it into his career as a rapper.
Thompson grew up with a heavy interest in sports, especially basketball and football. He was also interested in music since childhood, and began his professional career at 17 years old, creating music in the basement with his friends.
To pursue his career, Thompson attended Morehouse College. He graduated in 2010, at the age of 18, with a Bachelor's degree in Film and TV.
Career[edit]
Bugus produced his first EP, “Bugus Demo,” in 2010.
After experimenting with music for two years, in 2011, from his parent's basement, Bugus co-founded DIEMON with the rapper Russ (a childhood classmate and friend). DIEMON is a record label and creative collective. It stands for Do It Everyday Music Or Nothing. Russ had left Columbia Records to partner with Bugus to create their independent label DIEMON.[1][4] [5]
Musical style and influences[edit]
Bugus's musical style is inspired by artists such as Lil Wayne, Kanye West, JAY Z, Eminem, 50 Cent, Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Nipsey Hussle. Bugus stated that he grew up listening to Lil Wayne since he was 6-7 and that Wayne is his favorite rapper. As for his musical style, Bugus focuses on lyrical content and mindfulness. In 2016 Bugus had released a song with Russ on Soundcloud called "Free Bird" which has reached two millions views. The style of Free Bird was described to be bouncy beats, memorable bar and carefree hooks. [6] [7]
