Adebukunola Babalola (born April 22, 1985) also known as Bukky is a Nigerian-Canadian TV News Anchor, Radio Personality, actress and motivational speaker. [1][2] The third child of Mr & Mrs. Babalola, Bukky was born in Lagos, Nigeria and made her debut as an actress in her portrayal of Jokotade Badmus in the hit NTA's Soap Opera, Hills and Valleys.[3][4] She garnered further accolade in her depiction of Ada, in Accident, a 2013 Nollywood movie directed by Nigerian film director, Teco Benson.
Bukky obtained her first degree from the University of Lagos, where she studied Botany but because of her love for the Arts, she delved into the study of Mass Communication at the Post Graduate Diploma level in the University Lagos. Bukky has a Master's degree in Communication from where she emerged Outstanding International Student in 2018 and graduated with a perfect GPA of 4.0.[5][6]
Television and Radio Broadcast Career[edit]
Bukky's unique style of presentation has endeared her to many as her eloquence, wit and ability to engage with her guests during live broadcasts has been largely commended by experts in the broadcast industry.[7]
In 2012, Bukky anchored St. Lauren Nollywood Buzz,[8][9] a popular radio show at UNILAG 103.1.FM, which featured Nollywood stars, Bimbo Akintola, Joseph Benjamin and Desmond Elliot. In the summer of 2018, Bukky was one of the few young professionals selected to intern at CNN.[10][11]
Bukky has worked as a News Anchor with TVC News, where she interviewed renowned personalities like the former Governor of Lagos State in Nigeria, Babatunde Raji Fashola just before Nigerians headed to the polls in 2015 to determine who would become Nigeria's next president.[12] Bukky also had an exclusive interview with Nigeria's Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti in 2015, where he made the shocking revelation that he had recently fathered another child at the age of 49.[13]
Nominations and Awards[edit]
In 2011, Bukky was nominated and won the prestigious Peak Awards for Best TV and Radio Personality.[14]
In 2018, Bukky emerged Outstanding International Student and graduated with a perfect GPA of 4.0.[15][16] She was inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi the same year.[17]
Personal life[edit]
Bukky's mother, Beatrice Craig-Babalola, who was regarded as the matriarch of the family, passed away in June 2021 at the age of 68.[18]
