The Bust of Admiral Tamandaré is a monument in honor of the patron of the Brazilian Navy, Joaquim Marques Lisboa, Marquis of Tamandaré, located in the city of Porto Alegre. The bust is positioned on a pedestal in front of the Monument to the Expeditionary in Farroupilha Park. Nearby are also the busts of Santos Dumont, Duque de Caxias, and Mascarenhas de Moraes.[1][2]
Honoree
[edit]Joaquim Marques Lisboa, the Marquis of Tamandaré, was a nobleman and military officer in the Imperial Brazilian Navy. He was born in the city of Rio Grande in the Rio Grande do Sul on December 13, 1807, and began his military career at a young age, eventually reaching the rank of Admiral after nearly 60 years of service.[3][4]

He passed away on March 20, 1897, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Composition and revitalization
[edit]The bust is made of a metal alloy and was created and inaugurated in 1974. Among the busts present, it has attracted little vandalism due to its depiction of a non-controversial figure. However, the identification plaque has been stolen multiple times during its display in the park.[1][5]
