Submission declined on 25 February 2024 by Bearcat (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

- Comment: Note that the Western Hockey League is not a level of play that automatically guarantees inclusion in Wikipedia in and of itself -- and even at the NHL level, the test still requires actually making ice in a real NHL game, and is not automatically passed by every person who can claim to be a draft prospect.
So I can only assess this on whether he passes WP:GNG or not -- but four of the five footnotes here are his own team's self-published content about itself on either its own website or a press release distribution platform, and while one hit constitutes proper coverage in a real media outlet, one hit of media coverage isn't enough all by itself.
So he would have to actually play in at least one real NHL game after getting drafted to claim notability on the basis of the NHL, and he would have to have a hell of a lot more than just one hit of media coverage to claim notability on the basis of the WHL. Carter Yakemchuk (born September 29, 2005) is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He is considered a top prospect eligible for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing career[edit]
Yakemchuk was drafted 65th overall in the third round of the 2020 Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft by the Calgary Hitmen.[1] In his rookie WHL season in 2021–22, Yakemchuk recorded four goals and 12 points, and was named Hitmen rookie of the year.[2]
Following the 2022–23 season, in which he recorded 19 goals and 47 points,[3] Yakemchuk was named to the WHL Central Division second all-star team.[4]
In the 2023–24 season, Yakemchuk was selected as one of 40 draft-eligible players to play in the 2024 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.[4][5] He was named WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 28, 2024.[6] On February 21, 2024, Yakemchuk set the Hitmen record for single-season goals by a defenceman, netting his 25th of the season against the Edmonton Oil Kings to surpass the previous mark set by Jake Bean.[7] Entering the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Yakemchuk was considered a consensus first round pick, ranked sixth amond North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in their midseason rankings.[8] Although scouts generally ranked him no higher than 10th overall, some had him as high as third.[9][10]
International play[edit]
Yakemchuk represented Canada at the 2023 IIHF World U18 Championships.[11]
