Cheyenne Paige Fernald (born May 25, 2001) is an American singer-songwriter. She released her first single Nameless in May 2022 followed by her second, Abba the following summer.

Life and Career

Early Life

Cheyenne Paige Fernald was born on May 25, 2001 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Her grandfather, Jimmy Wood was the lead singer of Jimmy Woods and the Woodsmen, and Cheyenne grew up surrounded by music. She began singing with her parents in church at 8 years old.

Cheyenne spent her early years on the New England seacoast with her parents and younger sister. She attended preschool in her hometown, then attended Garrison School and Dover Middle School. When Cheyenne was 13, her family moved to the Tampa bay area where she was homeschooled then attended J. W. Mitchell High School where she graduated in 2019. As a child, she performed in local and regional theatre company productions. Her early love form music was fostered by her parents and grandparents. Cheyenne began taking piano lessons at the age of 8 and at 12, she began writing her own lyrics.

At 17, Cheyenne was gifted a 1972 Terada guitar by one of her father's colleagues. She spend countless hours on her bedroom floor teaching herself to play it, and when she was able to sustain a few chords, she began putting her songs to music.

In 2022, Cheyenne recorded and released her first self-written single, Nameless and the following summer released her second single, Abba.

In September of 2024, Cheyenne announced the writing and pre-production of her first full length album.

Artistry

Style

Cheyenne's early musical influences were the singers her parents listened to. She was introduced to Broadway cast recordings and began learning songs by Idina Menzel, Sutton Foster and Julie Andrews. Her grandfather was a country singer, and she was surrounded by 80s, 90s and early 00s country music. She learned Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, and early Taylor Swift.

Cheyenne's songs are inspired by female songwriters who's lyrics tell poignant stories. From her earliest songs, to her most recent, Cheyenne takes influence from songwriters such as Carole King, Carly Simon, Stevie Nicks, Sara Bareilles, Brooke Fraser and Taylor Swift.

Voice

Cheyenne possesses a versatile alto vocal range that ranges from a musical theatre belt to indie, to pop rock. Her musical theatre training enables her to use the wide range of dynamics in her voice to convey the emotion behind her lyrics.

Songwriting

Cheyenne's love for storytelling and songwriting began in her childhood. She credits her parents for introducing her to a variety of artists and music styles at a young age for her fascination with lyrics. As a child, she was surrounded by the stories captured in Broadway cast albums and Disney movie scores. Her lyrical influences include female songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Carly Simon, Stevie Nicks, Sara Bareilles, and Taylor Swift. She also lists Paul Simon, Noah Kahan and Fleetwood Mac as some of her favorite artists and bands. Cheyenne is an avid reader and her literary influences include William Shakespeare, Nathaniel Hawthorne, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Carrie Fisher, and the poets Sylvia Plath, and Emily Dickinson.
