Draft:Chief Commoners of the City of London

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chief Commoner of the City of London is elected by the Court of Common Council of the City of London Corporation each October to take office for one year from the following April. They act as counsellor when required and the initial point of contact for complaints against, and disputes between elected members. The Chief Commoner attends all City banquets and dinners and hosts six 'Civic Dinners' a year in their own right as well as acting as a key member of the hosting committees for visiting dignitaries including heads of state.

The office of Chief Commoner, established in 1444, is elected by the Court of Common Council. Whilst open to all members on nomination of at least 10 elected members, the role is typically held by an individual who has made a significant contribution to the City of London Corporation.[1]
