Chonny Jash is a self-produced independent singer/songwriter from Victoria, Australia. Chonny's discography consists of both originals and covers, though he's most known for his Tally Hall cover album, "Chonny's Charming Chaos Compendium," (also referred to as "CCCC" and "C4" by the community.) As of May 2024, he has over 40 thousand subscribers on YouTube and over 110 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify.

Career[edit]

Early Career[edit]

During his high school years, Jash began learning how to play drums, and then bass guitar, as a hobby. Shortly after, he started using FL Studio as his interest in music rose. This started a chain reaction of him joining bands, taking music classes, and studying music theory, and devoting majority of his time throughout high school to playing drums.

In January 2015, he created the YouTube account "CanMusicCanOfSoup" or “DJ Soup”, in which he would post remixes of songs, typically from video game OST’s. These gained a small amount of popularity, with the channel having an average of about 100-200 views per video. He has stated that this was not his first account.

Jash eventually went on to study Music Performance at an unknown university, but dropped out due to wanting a different type of career in music. Then, later, he went on to an unknown college to study Sound Engineering, however dropped out once more, due to mental health problems.

Current/Modern Career[edit]

Jash abandoned the DJ Soup account in June of 2021 and switched to his current channel, named Chonny Jash (chosen over the name “Sneeb.”) Originally a channel for memes and mashups, with a profile photo of Steve-O's face representing his brand, his content moved into original music based on games such as The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask, covers of popular artists such as Tally Hall and Cosmo Sheldrake, and an album of original music titled “the before.”

His primary propulsion into the spotlight was when his covers of Tally Hall began to gain internet popularity, most notably his covers of Ruler of Everything, The Bidding, and The Mind Electric. His Tally Hall covers contain many new and edited lyrics, and the appeal of the evolving story behind the album's primary characters, Heart, Mind, and Soul, sparked an ever-growing fan base.

With this rise in popularity, upon finishing the album, he commissioned artist Gravemudart on Twitter to redraw his original Steve-O profile picture to be pure black with a smile made of just teeth and 2 eyes. He said in his 2023 QnA, “I wanted to move away from Steve-O's face. Mainly for artistic reasons, as it just didn’t fit, but also for potential legal reasons.” This is his current profile photo on his accounts today.

Jash's popularity eventually led to him quitting his job and devoting himself to music full-time. In his interview on Medium, he said that his motivation is "...less of a motivation to do music, and more of an intense demotivation to do literally anything else as a career path." This is also a large theme in his song “Dear Machine. Hate, the Cog”, which was released on June 25, 2023, where he details his dread and subsequent entrance into music as a profession.

He went on to complete other musical projects, including The Power Hour Project, in which he covered songs from artists Will Wood, That Handsome Devil, and Tim Minchin, as well as updating and creating original pieces for the final Power Hour EP. Currently, there have been no announcements of concrete plans for future projects. As of 2024, he still lives in Australia and produces music frequently as well as having a decent online presence in the fandom.
