Cláudio de Pina

Cláudio de Pina (b. 1977) is an organist, composer, sound artist and researcher, known for his electroacoustic works and contemporary music works adapted to portuguese historical organs. Has an academic researcher he published several articles in the field of organ music, acousmatic music, acoustics and musical analysis.[1]

Biography[edit]

Born and based in Lisbon. Titular of the historical organ of the Parish church of Ajuda (Lisbon). Researcher in the Contemporary Music Research Group, GIMC (CESEM, FCSH-UNL). Holds a Diploma in Advanced Studies in Musical Arts (FCSH/ESML) in the area of contemporary organ music. Master in Musical Arts, with distinction on the Dean’s Honour Roll, Best Master 2018/19 (FCSH). He is currently a PhD candidate and FCT research fellow in the field of electroacoustic and organ music. He studied at the Gregorian Institute of Lisbon, Hot Jazz Club and Physics Eng. at FC-UL. He has also studied with Adrian Moore, Åke Parmerud, Annette Vande Gorne, Barry Truax, César Viana, Eurico Carrapatoso, Gilles Gobeil, Hans Tutschku, Jaime Reis, Vincent Debut and Trevor Wishart. Career[edit]

His academic and artistic work has been awarded, edited and published internationally at events such as Arte no Tempo, Aveiro Síntese, Binaural Nodar, Encontro Nacional de Investigação em Música, Encontro Internacional de Tecnologia e Música, Festival DME, MUSLAB, Festival Zeppelin, Matera/Intermedia, Nova Contemporary Music Meeting, NAISA, Perpectivas Sonoras, World Listening Project, and L'Espace du Son. His acousmatic works have been published in the MA/IN 2019, Métamorphoses 2020 and Deep Wireless #18 2024 collections, where he was a finalist in these competitions. In 2020, he published Asteroeidēs, music for organ and electronics, and Palimpsestus, acousmatic music. In 2022, he released Avant-garde Organ, a critical edition of avant-garde works on the Portuguese historical organ, with the support of the GDA Foundation, published by 9musas and distributed internationally by Codax Music. In 2023, in collaboration with New Yorker Andrew Levine, he released the album Aether Ventus, organ with modular synthesisers and theremin. He realised György Ligeti's centenary in 2023 at the National Museum of Music and at the NCMM conference. Performed eight hours of John Cage's Organ2/ASLSP cycle of works at the National Music Museum. in 2024 premiered organ works by Portuguese composers Diogo Alvim, Ivan Moody and Bruno Gabirro in the 30th edition of Festival Música Viva.[3]

Has a composer for multimedia he collaborated in the sound and music department in theatre, film and instalations. Has a freelance keyboard player he worked with several Portuguese bands like Gilbert's Feed Band, Icon and the Black Roses, Forgotten Suns, The Temple and Fantasy Opus.
