Claudiu Popa, is a Canadian entrepreneur and cybersecurity expert.[1] Founder and CEO of Informatica Corporation,[2] Popa has authored several books and articles on cybersecurity, has been a keynote speaker at numerous industry conferences, and frequently contributes to national media and print publications.[3]
Early life and Education
[edit]Popa was born in Bucharest, Romania, though grew up in Paris, France. As a teenager, he started Canada's cybersafety foundation from Toronto, Canada.[4]
In 1997, Popa graduated from York University in Toronto, Ontario with a Bachelor of Computer Science.[5] He has gained many certifications since then, such as, PMP, CRISC, CISSP, CISA and CIPP.[6][7]
Career
[edit]Over the years, Popa has founded several ventures, including the KnowledgeFlow Cybersafety Foundation, a non-profit organization providing cybersafety education and digital media literacy resources to all Canadians,[8] Datarisk Canada, focusing on risk management and data protection,[9] and Managed Privacy Canada, specializing in privacy compliance and data governance.[10]
Some of Popa's publications include, The Canadian Cyberfraud Handbook: A Professional Reference,[11][12] Cybersafety by Design,[13] and The Canadian Privacy and Data Security Toolkit.[14] His work has contributed to public awareness and the development of industry standards in these fields.
Popa has lectured for Ontario Tech University, York Univeristy's Schulich School of Business, Toronto Metropolitan University, and University of Toronto.[15][16] Lastly he developed and taught from 2016-2018, Canada's first FinTech Cybersecurity Course for Seneca College in Ontario, Canada.[17][18]

[edit]Claudiu Popa is a contributor to CPA reports[19][20], along with news and radio programs, such as, CTV News,[21] CBC News,[22] and Marketplace,[23] as an educator for cyber protection.[24]
Popa has delved deeply into EdTech risk in Canada and found numerous privacy lapses that exposed students and children to generational risk.[25][26] Additionally, he has contributed to discussions on various media outlets to raise awareness about the broader implications of these issues and promote better cybersecurity practices in educational technology.[25][26]
Personal Life
Some of the organizations Popa volunteers with include the Canadian Chamber of Commerce as an Advisory Committee Member, Cybersecurity and Privacy Expert,[27] speaker and educator for KnowledgeFlow[28], and from 2022-2023, he volunteered as a CISO and Senior Cyberintelligence Advisor for the NATO Association of Canada.[29]
