Hermes Giovanni Castro Rodriguez (born 20 February 1990), known by his stage name DJ Hermes, is a Venezuelan DJ. He came to prominence in 2019 and has had various hit songs, including Esa Loca (which reached number 3 on the Top 100 on Traxsource), Sing It Back (which achieved number 1 placement on Traxsource), and Bésame Mucho Afro Mix, which was number 1 on the TraxSource Afro Charts[1]

DJ Hermes was awarded the Best DJ in Miami in 2019[2], and he was also nominated for the first edition of the 305 Latin Awards.

Early Life[edit]

Rodriguez was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela [3]. He first started DJing at age 15 by performing at local parties and proms, which inspired him to pursue music alongside a traditional career. After graduating high school, he studied Computer Science and Systems at the Instituto Universitario de Tecnologia Para la Informatica (IUTEP), Venezuela. However, he continued to DJ at local nightclubs while studying, which led to gigs at some of the most renowned clubs in Venezuela. In 2011 and 2012, Rodriguez was the official DJ for Rumbas Venezuela, one of the largest online publications dedicated to the Venezuelan night scene. In 2016, Rodriguez moved to Miami, Florida, United States, where he currently resides.

Career[edit]

In 2018, DJ Hermes was signed by the record label In Progresso Records, which is owned by Eduardo Javith DJ Yayo. Hermes’ first release with the label was the song Summer Groove, which had a positive reception. In 2018, he worked with Colombian label Magic Beatz Records on the song Aggressive.

In 2021, DJ Hermes was signed by 305 Made in Miami, a Miami-based record label belonging to DJ Oscar G. His first hit Esa Loca was described by Nervous New Releases as “an iconic and powerful vocal sample.” Esa Loca reached number 3 on the Top 100 on Traxsource and was also played by DJs such as The Cube Guys, Tooper, Danny Cohiba, Narf Zayd.

Shortly after the song’s success, DJ Hermes was signed by New York label Nervous Records. His first release with the label was Sing It Back with Rafael Pineda (Fly), a song with Latin house influences mixed with a delicate vocal performance, which he made alongside the Bulgarian musician Dessy Slavova. The track became an international success, reaching number 1 on Traxsource for 16 consecutive weeks. It also received plays on some of the biggest radio stations in Europe and America and occupied the top position on Apple Music and Spotify singles charts in the United Kingdom, Europe, and America.

In February 2022, DJ Hermes launched his own record label Drums Beats Records. He has released numerous tracks through the label since this point, including the 2023 single Bésame Mucho Afro Mix. The song was number 1 for two months on the Afro Charts on TraxSource.
