David James Schuler (Born August 01, 1982) is a two-time Grammy-Nominated, multi-platinum songwriter, record producer and recording artist.

Best known for his work as a Songwriter/Record Producer, Schuler has written and/or produced for artists such as P!nk, John Legend, Daughtry, Backstreet Boys, New Politics, Rozzi, Tina Arena, Paty Cantu, Ricki-Lee and many more.[1] [2] [3] In total, his work has sold over 15 million units and reached over 1 billion streams worldwide. He also served as Music Supervisor and co-wrote/produced over 50 songs for Amazon Prime's "Do, Re & Mi", an animated series starring Kristen Bell, Fred Armisen and Jackie Tohn.[4]

Schuler has gained additional notoriety since 2018 for his solo project, The Bad Dreamers, to which he's since released two studio albums amongst additional remixes and features.[5]

Also a writer/director, Schuler has directed numerous music videos and his own short films.[6]

Career

[edit]

Schuler's career as a professional musician began in January 2006, when he joined local Rochester band The Sunstreak, a pop/punk act that had already made a name for themselves before he joined. The Sunstreak joined the Vans Warped Tour that summer and sold over 25,000 copies of their debut full length album, becoming the first band in history to ever chart on Billboard without official distribution or a record company. Schuler remained in The Sunstreak until 2010 before ultimately stepping away to focus on writing and producing for other artists.[7]

Schuler signed a co-publishing deal in the fall of 2011 with BMG North America/Topline Songs, where he went on to write and produce songs for dozens of recording artists, including the aforementioned and many more.[8]

In 2016, Schuler and close collaborator Jackie Tohn began writing songs for "Do, Re & Mi", a music-education oriented animated series, co-created by Tohn with Michael Scharf. 52 Episodes of the series were produced by Gaumont and released on Amazon Prime in 2021, featuring over 50 original songs that Schuler co-wrote and produced with Tohn.[4][6]

The Bad Dreamers

[edit]

In 2017, Schuler began writing and producing his own music again for a new solo project, The Bad Dreamers. Since then, he's released two full length studio albums along with remixes and features alike.[9] [10] [11] [12]

Film

[edit]

Having also directed music videos, Schuler has written/directed four short films since 2017 including "The House Call", "The Offer" and others.[13] [14]
