Dorin Iacob (b. February 22, 1960, Lugoj) is a Romanian politician, political consultant and analyst, media personality and businessman He has a professional experience of 37 years, of which 12 years in intelligence activities and information operations, over 10 years involved in political activities for the construction of political parties and political alliances in Romania, of conservative patriotic orientation, from a national and sovereign perspective in compatibility with Romania's accession to NATO and the European Union. Between the 1990s and 2007, both personally and as an employee of the new information services in Romania, but also politically, Dorin Iacob was involved and continuously supported all the necessary actions for the accession and Romania's integration into European and Euro-Atlantic space and structures[1]. Starting from 2019, Dorin Iacob is a prime-time political analyst at Realitatea Plus. Since the 1990s he has been active as an entrepreneur and administrator of private companies.

Studies[edit]

Dorin Iacob completed legal studies at the Romanian Police Academy between 1983 and 1986[2], and from 1986 to 1991, the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Finance-Banking at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca.[citation needed]

Professional experience[edit]

Between 1986 and 1990, Dorin Iacob was an economic police officer.[citation needed]

Between 1990 and 1992 he was an officer at the Romanian Intelligence Service. From this position, Dorin Iacob was directly involved in the reorganization and restructuring of the Romanian Intelligence Service, the new post-communist intelligence structure in Romania, working directly with the Head of the Romanian Intelligence Service, Virgil Măgureanu, with whom he later carried out political activities in the period 1996-2000.[citation needed]

From 1993 until now, he has been active as an entrepreneur, doing trade, consulting and logistics activities, which culminated in the establishment, in 2004, of the Rom Cargo Maritim LTD[3], a logistics and port operator company, which serves from establishment to date of the Romanian automotive industry, respectively Dacia Renault and Ford.[citation needed]

From October 2019 until now, he is a media personality at Realitatea Plus. From this position, Dorin Iacob conceived, together with Realitatea, the talk show Culisele Statului Paralel[4], a show of political and governmental revelations and analyzes of the main institutions of the Romanian State[5], including those of the national defense system, as well as themes of sensitive foreign policy, being present in the studio of the show as a permanent guest.[6]

Political experience[edit]

Between 1995 and 2001, Dorin Iacob coordinated, from the position of vice-president of the New Romania Party, successive mergers of political parties, after which the Romanian National Party was formed in 1998.[citation needed]

Dorin Iacob thought strategically, operationally and tactically about the construction of the Romanian National Party, from ideology, conservative and traditionalist center, to the development of central and territorial organizations, co-optation of members, strategic communication, political alliances and mergers in support of Romania's development and especially of its integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. In 2001, the Romanian National Party merged with the Democratic Party by absorption. Dorin Iacob coordinated and realized this merger, thus being co-opted into the national leadership of the Democratic Party.[citation needed]

Dorin Iacob was Executive Secretary for media relations and political strategy between 2001 - 2005.[citation needed]

Between 2001 and 2005, Dorin Iacob was involved in the Democratic Party. He was among the main leaders of the party that constituted, in 2003, together with the National Liberal Party, Alianța Dreptate and Adevăr DA. He was part of the limited leadership of the Alliance, being mainly responsible for coordinating and working with international political consultants from the USA[7] and Israel, for the presidential election campaign in Romania, later won with President Traian Băsescu.[citation needed]

In 2005, Dorin Iacob retired from political activity and devoted himself, in particular, to business and political consulting[8], being involved in this capacity in supporting the candidacy of Mircea Geoană for the Presidency of Romania, in 2009, and then in supporting Victor Ponta, being considered to also have a personal and professional relationship of trust with them[9]. The two were presidents of the Social Democratic Party. Victor Ponta was the Prime Minister of Romania. Mircea Geoană, is currently Deputy Secretary General of NATO. Dorin Iacob participated as a speaker at the Worldwide Freedom Initiative, an event organized by Republicans from the United States of America and France.[citation needed]
