ABOUT: Dr. Ellie Phillips (born July 22, 1949) is an American dentist and founder of Zellie's Xylitol Mints and Gum [1]. She is the author of several books including Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye [2] and Mouth Care Comes Clean [3] .

In 2010, she became a founding member of the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health (AAOSH). The AAOSH emphasizes the mouth-body connection and aims to educate people on how chronic oral diseases can contribute to conditions like cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and Alzheimer's.

EDUCATION: Phillips earned her dental degree from Guy's Hospital in London. She received her graduate degrees in Advanced General Dentistry and Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Rochester, New York. She has specialized in Cosmetic, Pediatric, and Geriatric Dentistry. As a Faculty Member and Clinic Director at the Eastman Institute of Oral Health in Rochester, New York, she developed preventive oral health programs for adults and children. She also taught medical and graduate dental students, nurses, and other health professionals about oral health.

ORAL HEALTH TECHNIQUES: Philips advocates against conventional oral health techniques including flossing, and recommends an oral care system of her own called The Complete Mouth Care System.

IN THE MEDIA: Phillip’s teachings have gained popularity on social media platforms including TikTok and YouTube. She teaches that sipping water all day long can be harmful to teeth and that keeping your toothbrush clean can be a vital step in improving oral health.
