"drop"[2] is a 2023 crime drama feature film written and directed by Iranian-Canadian filmmaker Ramin Eshraghi-Yazdi (In his feature narrative debut). The film follows Clip, played by Christopher Clare, a performance dancer aging out of his career. Meanwhile, a young friend, Stephan, played by Shemar Hebert, reaches out for help while hiding from a group of notorious criminals. "drop" was premiered at the Calgary International Film Festival in September 2023.[1]
Synopsis
[edit]Christopher, or CLIP, a nickname relic from his days hustling on the streets, is an artist who is past the height of his professional dance career. Aging out of his art form as a professional performance artist, CLIP, having used dance to change the course of his life, is now faced with an uncertain future. Amongst this turmoil, Stephen, a young friend and a talented street dancer, reaches out for help shadowing CLIPS very own past.

[edit]"drop" is the feature debut for filmmaker Ramin Eshraghi-Yazdi, who also wrote, produced, and served as the cinematographer for the film, along with visual consultant Philip Bowen. "drop" was written for actor/dancer and longtime collaborator Christopher Clare. The film features several dance sequences choreographed by Kaleb Tekeste and Christopher Clare. The film's score was created by Kaleb Tekeste under his music alias, KALIPO. The majority of the main cast, including the second lead Stephan (played by Shemar Herbert), The Man (played by Michael Burt Ian Brice), and the antagonist Amin (played by Nima Fard), are portrayed by first-time actors.
Produced on a micro-budget with support funding from the Government of Alberta through the Alberta Media Fund and the City of Calgary through the Calgary Art Development Authority, the film was shot over the span of 20 days in three blocks in Calgary, Alberta, during the summer of 2022..[3]
