Dušan Kalčić (Serbian Cyrillic: Душан Калчић; Vranje, Ottoman Empire, 28 June 1891 - Gevgelija, now part of North Macedonia, then Bulgarian-occupied territory, 13 January 1916[1]) was a Komita from Vranje who was a member of the organization "Unification or Death" (Black Hand).[2]
Biography
[edit]Dušan Kalčić fought in the Macedonian Struggle, and the Balkan Wars as a Chetnik. After the Great Serbian Retreat, he was out of uniform working as a merchant when Bulgarian troops entered Vranje and gathered more than a hundred prominent Serbs. He was killed along with 107 others by the Bulgarians. The reason for the assassination was that he participated in the Second Balkan War of 1913 and held a notary public office in Gevgelija, considered "Bulgarian territory".[3][4][5]
His death was gruesome; he was tortured with many other prominent townspeople -- all Serbs -- before being killed.[6]
Dušan Kalčić was married to the sister of the Chetnik voivode Kosta Vojinović-Kosovac.
